Hi Everyone!
How many of you are sick of spending a fortune on cleaning products? Well, there may be a way to cut down your costs and also ‘de-chemicalise’ your house. I am a firm believer in having as few chemicals in my home as I possibly can. So, with the help of my little red book (Chemical Maze) I set out to do exactly that. Out with the additives and preservatives and out with the bleach and sodium laurel sulphate.
I use a range of products called Enjo – which will be a household name to all Aussie readers but will have the rest of you wondering how to pronounce it! They are a fabulous system of micro cloths and mittens which require nothing other than water to leave your house sparkling and bacteria free. It rocks!! Fork out for them in the first place but as they last YEARS (I have some 8 year old ones still going strong) the savings are considerable.
I am also a believer in good old elbow grease…… I know these amazing new products say they will cut through grease and grime in seconds but what do they leave behind? A nasty trail of chemical residue….. to then be injested by children. For example: they put their food down on a tray of the high chair carefully wiped down with Dettox or Pineoclean. Yum! If you wipe things with an Enjo mitt and then dry it there are no chemicals left and no bacteria either.
There are some areas that need a bit more help ie: The Loo. I use an eco friendly cleaner and give it a mega good scrub. Works just as well as any chemical. The other really great thing about being chemical free is that the house never smells like the cleaning aisle at the Supermarket. My nose is now super sensitive to these smells and I find them really overpowering. When I used to use them I think my sense of smell must have become immune to how strong they all are.
I hope my children’s skin and senses amongst other things will benefit form all this. They certainly seem very healthy!
